Here's another piece by artist Chris Bivins, on display in his home. I wish I had photographed the text behind this fellow so that I could better interpret for you who he represents, but I was focused (no pun intended) so much on capturing his portrait that I neglected his context. I gather than he represents a literary character or archetype, hence the juxtaposition against the page of text. In any case, he's such an observant fellow, looking out over the room as he does, and the light shone so nicely on him in layers of tone and shadow, that I had to take his portrait. He's a colorful guy, but in the end I decided I liked the black and white best, especially with the dark background behind him; and this angle, out of the many I tried, best conveys a sense of depth.
