Ever since I saw a photo like this for the first time, I've wanted to make one myself, with a long exposure at the ocean blurring the waves into an ethereal mist. This night at Tolovana Park, just south of Cannon Beach, was the perfect opportunity. I stayed out well past sunset experimenting with various camera settings. This one, my best shot, involved actually standing in the surf zone as the waves broke around my boots, in order to fill the frame with water and the rock in the foreground. The sky still had just enough color to be beautiful, and the seagull standing on top of the rock stayed still enough to outlast my exposure. The beautiful blue light of dusk topped it all off to make this one of my favorite photos of our week at the beach.
