Guest Photo of the Day: Sapo Essay

, originally uploaded by Sapo Essay.
I like Alessandro Saponi's photographs. They're fantastical, involving circus performers, dancers, burlesque, costumes, and yet everything is tangible, real, full of light. They're the kind of images that make you look long and hard, with so much subtext to them behind the initial first reaction. This photo is a good example--half candid, half portrait, half performance, adding up to more than a whole.
