Here's a great picture from Nehalem Bay State Park of what I think is a "sand shrimp"; please feel free to correct me if I'm wrong! Whatever the little fellow is (only about an inch in length, plus antennae), it sat perfectly still while I zeroed in on it with the macro setting on my zoom lens. It's a beautiful little critter, in an odd sort of way.
I had two good opportunities for closeups this month. Here's a picture from a week earlier than the sand shrimp, of a collection (flock? herd?) of newly-hatched spiders on the door of a bathroom in Cougar Rock Campground at Mount Rainier National Park. If this keeps up, I'm going to need to get a decent dedicated macro lens.
