Archive Photo of the Day: Emmons Sunrise

In late July of 1994, I climbed Mount Rainier with Jack Morrison, a seasonal interpretive ranger who'd worked at Sunrise in Mount Rainier National Park for many years, and a friend of his from school. We climbed via the Emmons Glacier route, out of White River Campground, spending the night at Camp Schurman. We left camp at 1am to head for the summit. Unfortunately, we were turned back at 13,000 feet by altitude sickness, but not before I captured this awesome sunrise photo looking back down the glacier to the Cascade Mountains disappearing into the distance below.
