Archive Photo of the Day: Bristlecone

bristlecone, originally uploaded by The Bacher Family.
The ancient skeleton of a bristlecone pine on Wheeler Peak in Great Basin National Park, Nevada, September 1989. I love the stark beauty of these old, old trees, who survive for thousands of years in harsh conditions at 10,000 feet in the ranges of eastern California, Nevada, and Utah.
